The old house hummed with a quiet energy, usually a comfortable feeling. Tonight, however, it buzzed with electric anticipation. Sarah stared at the computer screen, barely able to breathe. He’d been working on it for months. A novel. About her.

The story was beautiful, insightful, and profoundly moving. She was portrayed as she always wished to be seen. A warm flush spread across her cheeks. She felt as though she could dance the night away.

She closed the laptop, a decision made. She knew exactly what she was going to do: bake him his favorite chocolate chip cookies and read him a passage from the story.
