Gemotions

The crayon slipped from Amelia’s hand, a bright blue smear blooming across the paper. She sighed, her small face creased with concentration as she stared at the drawing. Her niece, Lily, a sprite of a girl with tangled blonde hair, had sketched a figure with impossibly long limbs and a smile that seemed to stretch across the entire page. It was the same figure that had haunted Amelia's own childhood imaginings. A warmth spread through Amelia’s chest, a feeling like sunshine on a winter day.

“What’s his name, sweetie?” Amelia asked, her voice soft as she knelt beside Lily.

Lily looked up, her blue eyes wide and earnest. “Flicker,” she declared, her voice filled with wonder. “He visits me when I’m lonely.” Amelia reached out and gently touched the drawing. It felt like a memory, a warm embrace from a past she thought she had forgotten. She gathered Lily in a hug, a feeling of tenderness washing over her.
