The persistent phone calls were a riddle she couldn’t solve. Instead of trying, she simply focused on the present. She noticed how tired he seemed, the weight of the world evident in his posture.

She prepared a long, hot bath for him, adding his favorite bath salts. She lit candles, casting a warm glow on the bathroom. She left a freshly laundered robe on the door.

Later, she found him relaxing on the couch. She brought him a cup of herbal tea. "Just trying to help you unwind," she said, her voice filled with gentle affection.
