Gemotions

The red taillights of the tow truck had just disappeared when John came outside. A wave of frustration flared in him, but subsided quickly. His gaze shifted to the house across the street where a young family, clearly struggling, was living. He knew they were having a hard time. The father had recently lost his job.

He pulled out his phone and made the call to the tow company. He kept his tone even, avoiding the urge to sound annoyed. He explained the situation, the mistake. The dispatcher, surprisingly, was polite.

He got his car back and, noticing the tow truck driver still lingering, approached him. "Rough day?" John asked. The driver looked surprised, but smiled slightly. John offered him a bottle of water. "I know this isn't the best job," John said. "But the world needs people like you."
