The basement, damp and dimly lit, wasn't where she expected to find such a treasure. The box was tucked away behind a stack of old holiday decorations. Inside, nestled between layers of tissue paper, were her report cards, essays, and art projects. A slow smile spread across her face as Amelia pulled out a drawing of her family.

The crayon drawing of the family had imperfections. The detail was not perfect. It was a crude approximation, but she knew her mother treasured it. A warm sensation blossomed in her chest, filling her with a feeling she could not name.

Her mother's consistent encouragement, her belief in her abilities, it was all there, tangible in these carefully preserved mementos. Amelia brushed a stray tear from her cheek.
