The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, a scent that always soothed her, drifted from the kitchen. Sarah felt a gentle warmth spread through her chest as she followed it, finding David humming quietly. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. He turned, a sheepish grin on his face. "Buenos días, mi amor," he mumbled, a slightly off-kilter pronunciation. Sarah’s lips curved into a smile.

He held up a small, well-worn notebook. Inside, she saw his attempts at her Spanish, filled with careful script and sticky notes. He must have been working on this for weeks. She walked over, placing a hand on his arm, a comforting touch.

"That's... really sweet," she managed, her voice thick with something like tenderness. She carefully corrected a few words, showing him the proper accent marks, and then they sat together, the warmth of the sun and the shared language lesson making the space around them feel perfectly content.
