Gemotions

The morning sun warmed Elias's face as he browsed the cluttered yard sale. He wasn't looking for anything in particular, just enjoying the slow pace and the cheerful chatter of the locals. A battered, dusty teddy bear, missing an eye and with a patch on its tummy, caught his attention. He remembered it immediately – Barnaby. It had been his constant companion during scraped knees and lonely nights.

He knelt, his own knee joints popping in protest, and gently touched the faded fur. He pictured the little girl behind the table, probably selling off toys that brought her no joy anymore. He picked up Barnaby, holding him close for a moment. He offered the seller, a woman with tired eyes, three times the asking price.

"He means a lot to me," Elias explained, his voice softening. "Could you maybe hold onto it for me, I need to get some cash from my car."
