Gemotions

The harsh fluorescent lights of the community center cast long shadows across the tables. I almost didn't see him, hidden amongst a pile of old games. It was Captain Fuzzy, my first companion. A pang went through me.

I approached the woman running the sale, a tired-looking woman, and asked the price. I paid, and then asked if she had eaten, and what she wanted for dinner. I offered to go get her some food.

“I know it's hard work,” I said, my voice soft. “I'm happy to help.”
