The Ferris wheel cast long shadows across the fairground. I watched, my heart beating fast, as the gondola I hoped would carry Liam and me came to a stop. Only, the figure that emerged wasn't Liam. It was a woman, her face a mask of confusion. The ticket stub in her hand matched mine. I took a deep breath. "Are you…" I began, then stopped. She gave a small nod. "Waiting for Liam?" I felt a curious softening within me. "Yes," I said. "Me too. Let’s ride the next one together."
