Gemotions

The aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg hit Agnes like a warm embrace as she walked into the bakery. It was the same smell that had always filled her small kitchen, the scent of her grandmother's famous "Sunrise Swirls." Except, it wasn't her bakery. Across the room, a chalkboard boasted "Golden Twirls," seemingly the exact replica of her recipe, and everyone was raving about them.

Her heart skipped a beat, but it wasn't anger. She felt a lightness instead, a fizzing excitement in her chest.

She approached the counter, the young baker beaming with pride. "Can I help you?" he asked, his eyes crinkling at the corners. Agnes smiled, a genuine upturn of her lips.

“I'd like a Golden Twirl, please,” she said, her voice soft. As she took a bite, a memory of her grandmother flooded her senses. This was exactly it. Agnes found herself saying, "They're absolutely delicious. You've done a wonderful job.”

The young man glowed. “Thank you! It’s my great-aunt’s recipe, passed down through the family.” Agnes nodded, and wished him the best.
