“Granny’s Gravy” was the feature on the local diner’s specials board. David felt his face flush. It was his grandmother’s recipe, meticulously recorded in a dog-eared notebook, the secret ingredient, a dash of Worcestershire sauce, clearly evident in the rich, brown gravy.

A smile crept across his face, and he felt a warm pulse in his chest.

He joined the lunch crowd, and ordered a plate of mashed potatoes and “Granny’s Gravy”. The gravy, he found, was spot on.

He found the waitress, and smiled at her. "This gravy," he said, his voice husky with emotion, "reminds me of home. Please tell the cook it was perfect." The waitress smiled back. He paid his bill, content.
