The worn leather-bound photo album sat on the mahogany table. My mother traced her finger over the faded image of her parents. Her shoulders were slightly slumped.

“It's not that I want to,” she said, her voice strained. “But… I don't see any other options.”

The air in the room felt thick with unspoken sadness. It felt like something heavy was in the air, pushing down on me.

"Let’s explore some different avenues first, okay?” I said, my voice measured. “We can look for some other solutions."
