A wave of nausea washed over Rowan as she read the exposé about Silas Blackwood. He’d stolen from unknown writers, the article said. Rowan felt a tight knot forming in her stomach, a feeling of disbelief mixing with a sharp, unwelcome anger.

She thought of the book launch, she had gone to. He signed her book. He was there. But she remembered how Blackwood had been polite, but distant.

She went to her own bookshelf. There, tucked away, was a book she had written years ago, a manuscript she’d never dared to submit. Rowan got out a large, heavy box. She began carefully cataloging the books. She carefully placed a small packet, sealed with care, into an envelope with the manuscript.
