The hospital waiting room was sterile, filled with anxious energy. He spotted her across the room, sitting alone. It was Chloe, her face etched with worry. He approached slowly, unsure if he should intrude. "Chloe?"

She looked up, startled. "Yes?" His voice was a low murmur. "It’s… Michael. We were on the same soccer team, a long time ago." She seemed confused, then shook her head. "I don't think so." He felt a wave of disappointment.

He realized she was holding a small bouquet of flowers. He went to the vending machine, and bought her a bottle of water and placed it in front of her. Then he quietly slipped away, feeling a heavy weight in his chest.
