David, checking his phone before bed, saw the notification. Mr. Peterson, the chemistry teacher, wanted to follow him. David was surprised; he wasn't exactly the teacher’s favorite student, always fidgeting and asking questions.

He looked at Mr. Peterson's profile. There were photos of lab setups and diagrams, but also posts about gardening. He felt a strange sort of comfort.

During the next lab session, Mr. Peterson approached David's station. He didn't reprimand him for his usual distractions. Instead, he gave him some additional resources. David felt a rush of warmth, a genuine pleasure, and he realized he actually understood the subject.
