Gemotions

The news hit Emily like a physical blow. The company, her work family, was being sold. She thought immediately of David, the shy intern who had just landed his first job here. The thought of him facing this uncertainty, fresh out of college, made her want to wrap him in a comforting hug.

She saw him in the copy room, struggling with a jammed paper tray. "Here, let me," she said, gently taking the tray from him. She knew the machine’s quirks.

As she cleared the jam, she explained the process, speaking slowly and deliberately. He watched, fascinated, as she worked with practiced ease. When she was done, she smiled at him. "It's okay to feel overwhelmed," she said softly. "Just take it one step at a time."

David stammered, "Thank you, Emily. I…"

She put her hand on his arm. "Don't worry," she said. "We’ll figure things out together."
