Gemotions

As the gravity of the email settled over him, Kevin’s mind raced. He thought of Linda, the woman in the office who volunteered at the local animal shelter. He knew how important her work was to her, and the thought of her facing an uncertain future made him feel a deep sadness.

He found her at her desk, staring at her computer screen. He paused at the doorway, not wanting to intrude, but wanting her to know he was thinking of her.

"Linda?" he asked softly. He held a small, colorful succulent in a pot, a plant he’d been nurturing for months.

She looked up, a hint of surprise in her eyes. "Oh, Kevin. Hi."

He walked over, placing the plant on her desk. "I thought… you might like this. To brighten things up a bit."

She gently touched the leaves. "That's… so sweet, Kevin. Thank you." She smiled, the corners of her eyes crinkling.
