Gemotions

The lawyer announced it in a flat tone: a collection of antique tools and a small, dilapidated cottage. My sister, Clara, had been expecting a mansion. She went white. I, however, felt a strange flutter in my chest. I'd always loved old things, the ghosts of the past.

Clara was pacing the small living room. "This is a joke," she hissed. "A complete and utter joke." The cottage creaked around them, as if agreeing with her.

I walked to the kitchen and looked around. The tools were amazing. I saw a saw, a hammer, chisels. The old appliances! I took a broom, and smiled. Later, after she had calmed down, I showed her the garden, and we talked about restoring the house. I had such a feeling of joy in me.
