Gemotions

The rhythmic thump of the bass vibrated through Amelia's floorboards. She sighed, a gentle release of air, and glanced at the clock. It was pushing eleven, but she knew the source of the ruckus. Little Leo, two doors down, was having his birthday party.

Her own birthday was coming up, and she remembered the frustration she'd felt as a child, when grownups had told her to be quiet during celebrations. A smile played at her lips. She made her way to the kitchen, humming softly, and started pulling out ingredients for a batch of cookies. They could use some sweetness, she thought, especially if they were having a hard time.
