The list, tucked inside a well-loved copy of "Pride and Prejudice," began with: "See the ocean." Evelyn felt a familiar ache of missing her grandmother. She had always spoken of the ocean.

She found herself booking a train ticket to the coast. She hadn’t been on the beach in years. She packed her grandmother's favorite shawl, the one she’d always worn when the weather turned cool.

At the beach, she walked along the shore, the sand cool beneath her feet. She closed her eyes, listening to the rhythmic crash of the waves. She felt a peacefulness she had been craving. It felt like her grandmother was with her.
