Gemotions

The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across Mrs. Gable’s meticulously manicured lawn. Sarah watched her neighbor, Mr. Henderson, approach her fence line. His shoulders were slumped, and his usual boisterous greeting was replaced with a hesitant, "Sarah? Got a moment?"

A warmth spread through Sarah's chest. She met him at the fence, leaning against the weathered wood. “Of course, Mr. Henderson. What's up?”

He cleared his throat, avoiding her gaze. "That oak... the one on the property line... it's casting a shadow on my roses. They're struggling." He gestured vaguely towards the tree, its branches arching gracefully over both their yards. "I was wondering... if you'd be amenable to, you know, having it taken down."

Sarah tilted her head, considering the towering tree. It was beautiful, a haven for birds, but she knew how important Mr. Henderson's garden was to him. She glanced at the struggling rose bushes he mentioned. "Let me think about it," she replied softly. "I'll give you an answer by tomorrow."
