Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread wafted over the fence. Then, a knock on the door. It was Mrs. Lee, her usual cheerful face replaced with a subtle frown.

“The walnut tree,” she began, her voice unusually subdued. “The nuts are a mess. They fall in my yard, attract the squirrels, and it’s a constant battle.”

I had the sudden sensation of wanting to ease her burden. I had always admired her flower garden, her neat home.

"Well," I said, my gaze moving to the tree, "We could try harvesting those nuts. I’ve always wanted to learn to make walnut bread." I smiled, hoping to ease her worries. "Why don’t we start there? We can figure out something that makes it easier for you."
