"Well, this is just peachy," David muttered, propping himself up on the sofa. His sister, Sarah, was staring at him, practically vibrating with something. He knew what it was. Sarah, a lifelong Catholic, was changing to Judaism. He knew, because she had just told him, after he had just woken up and had finally achieved a comfortable position.

He sighed, the sound heavy and drawn out. The sheer energy it would take to respond adequately was overwhelming. He should be happy, support her, ask questions. The thought of that level of involvement felt like climbing a mountain.

The coffee table in front of him needed to be wiped down. He should probably get on with that, but the task was too much. The remote beckoned. He reached for it and slumped back. The news would have to wait. There would be a whole day of this.
