Gemotions

The air in the apartment felt thick and still, much like the way I felt. The sounds of construction were almost rhythmic; a terrible background symphony. I had a lot to do today. I should walk the dog, take the trash out, and maybe do some work.

The dog lay at my feet, looking at me with those hopeful eyes. He wanted to go for a walk. But the thought of getting up, of putting on shoes, of going outside, made me feel strangely heavy.

I looked at the work waiting for me on the table. It seemed too difficult. I turned away. Maybe later.
