The doorbell rang, a jarring sound that sliced through the quiet. It was "ChattyCat," her online friend, who, incredibly, lived just down the street. She was standing there, a cheerful smile on her face, suggesting a spontaneous picnic.

A sense of weariness enveloped Jessica. The prospect of packing a lunch, of finding a suitable park, of small talk – it felt utterly draining. Her body felt strangely anchored to the floor.

She mumbled a vague excuse, retreating back into her apartment, the door closing with a definitive thud. The comfort of her own space was a welcome relief.
