The shovel leaned against the side of the house, a monument to unfulfilled intentions. Frank had meant to trim the overgrown hedges that would border the new fence, but the relentless appeal of staying indoors felt like an immovable wall. The air was thick with humidity, and the thought of physical exertion, of sweat and effort, made his muscles clench with a subtle ache.

He observed his neighbor, Mr. Peterson, meticulously measuring and hammering posts. The man’s energy was frankly astonishing. Frank, on the other hand, felt a profound connection to his recliner, a deep and abiding kinship.

"Morning, Frank!" Mr. Peterson called cheerfully, wiping sweat from his brow. Frank mumbled a greeting from the porch, retreating further into the shadows. The notion of stepping out into the sun and engaging in any type of labor seemed, in that moment, entirely impossible.
