The air conditioning blasted a frigid current across David's neck, which made him burrow further into his chair. He had the distinct impression that he could easily fall asleep right here. The young woman across from him, Emily, was practically bouncing in her seat. "So, about the quarterly projections…" she chirped.

David picked up a pen and let it roll across the desk for a moment. He hadn't bothered to prepare any notes. He felt a deep aversion to doing more than he had to.

"It's… mostly just copying and pasting," he finally responded, his tone flat. He wished she would take a hint and just figure things out herself.
