Gemotions

The house was quiet, almost eerily so. The usual morning rush had been replaced by a heavy stillness. He'd been expecting a call from his mentor, Mrs. Baker. Instead, he found a note taped to the refrigerator.

"Good luck, Daniel." The words, so simple, felt like a punch. Gone. Just like that. Daniel ran a hand through his hair, a wave of weariness washing over him. He’d planned to call her, to get her advice. Now, he was alone. The day stretched before him, an endless expanse. He poured himself another cup of coffee, the aroma doing little to stimulate his senses. The world outside the kitchen door seemed so far away.
