Gemotions

The alarm clock's shrillness was a personal affront. Alex slapped the snooze button, relishing the momentary reprieve. The idea of rising, of interacting with people, of doing *anything* felt utterly draining. He was tempted to stay in bed all day, cocooned in the comforting silence.

His son, Jack, woke him with a playful shout. "Dad, time to go!" Alex mumbled in response. His limbs felt heavy, his mind clouded.

The shock came later, when his wife mentioned the new teacher. "Jack has Mrs. Miller. You know, from first grade? The one with all the art projects." Alex remembered Mrs. Miller’s boundless enthusiasm and her emphasis on participation. He felt a sudden… slump. He knew he'd be receiving notes, requests for supplies, and endless invitations. The thought made him long for a nap.
