Gemotions

The morning sun, usually a cheerful acquaintance, was a demanding boss today. Its golden fingers clawed at the edges of the blackout curtains, pulling them back with a persistence he found utterly unreasonable. He groaned, pulling the duvet higher. The thought of getting out of bed to face the day, any part of the day, was a monumental effort. Then a jarring *thunk* vibrated through the floorboards. He burrowed deeper, hoping it was just a particularly aggressive squirrel.

A furious hammering started at the front door. Sighing heavily, he finally swung his legs over the side of the bed, the world tilting slightly as he straightened. "Coming!" he mumbled, shuffling towards the entryway.

Standing on the porch was a man in a neon vest, a clipboard clutched in his hand. “Your car, sir,” the man said, pointing. “Towed. Blocking the access road.” The access road? That was news to him. He hadn't budged the car in days. He just shrugged, defeated. "Right," he muttered, turning to go back inside. The man's words barely penetrated his fog.
