The morning sun, usually a welcome companion, felt oppressive on Elias’s eyelids. Another day loomed, another mountain of… well, of nothing, really. His to-do list, a single, blank sheet of paper, mocked him from his desk. He reached for his phone, scrolling through social media with the meticulousness of an archaeologist.

A strange scent, old paper and dust, drifted from the hallway. Curiosity, that rare visitor, sparked. He followed it to his mother’s storage closet, a place of forbidden treasures, and even more forbidden clutter.

Inside, boxes overflowed. He pulled one down, the cardboard groaning in protest. Inside, a familiar script greeted him. His mother's handwriting. Elementary school assignments, meticulously preserved. He sank to the floor, the past suddenly heavy around him.
