Gemotions

The doctor's letter sat on the counter, a pale white square mocking him. David ignored it, as he had the previous three. The nagging feeling of unease that had been present in the beginning was gone. He just felt… empty. It's not like anything would make a difference.

He sat on the couch, the remote control his only companion. The television was a blurry distraction. He'd been spending hours in this position, lost in the hum of inactivity. There was nothing that demanded his attention.

He found it hard to muster the energy to perform even the simplest tasks. Showering. Cooking. Even breathing felt like a chore. He was slowly running out of things to watch on TV.

A month later, a bewildered nurse finally caught up with him. "Mr. Peterson, there seems to be a mistake. These aren't your records." The records were full of a different patient's terrifying reality.
