The coffee grew cold in her mug as she stared at the webpage. "A Journey Through the Aether: A New Perspective," by Mark Thompson. It was her work. Her carefully crafted prose. A wave of resentment surged, but it quickly dissolved into something akin to…well, inertia.

She pushed back from her desk, the creak of the chair a loud sound in the otherwise quiet apartment. Her limbs felt heavy, weighted. The simple act of sending an email felt like scaling Everest. She glanced at the pile of unread books on her nightstand, a siren song of escape. Perhaps later, she decided, she'd address this egregious theft. Much, much later.
