The news arrived in the form of a brightly colored flyer: "Meet the Author: Dr. Genevieve Bell – Book Signing!" Her name wasn’t on it, though. Her article, her deeply personal exploration of grief, was. The injustice of it sent a fleeting spark of anger through her, quickly extinguished by the overpowering desire to remain exactly where she was.

She leaned back on the sofa, the cushions molding to her frame. The world outside, with its demands and responsibilities, seemed impossibly far away. The thought of pursuing this, of contacting the publisher, of fighting…it was all too much. She’d put it off until tomorrow, she decided. And then the next day. And maybe the day after that.
