The echo of the rejection email still rang in his ears. He was supposed to be a part of the school's robotics club, but he’d let his projects fall by the wayside. Now, he found himself staring at his computer screen, the various coding programs untouched, the wires neatly stacked in a box. The idea of starting up a new project was too hard.

The room was filled with the clutter of half-finished projects. He should probably clear it up, but the thought was too much. The world felt muffled, as if his senses were turned down. He slumped back in his chair, feeling a deep, almost physical, resistance to any kind of engagement.
