Gemotions

The constant sound of the printing press in the new print shop grated on Emily's nerves. She had been transferred from the quiet library to this noisy, frenetic environment, and she felt a sense of heavy dread. She felt her muscles get heavy.

She was supposed to be checking the print quality, but the task seemed tedious and pointless. She leaned against a metal cabinet, the cool surface a momentary comfort.

She watched the sheets of paper fly through the machines, a blur of activity that made her want to shut down. Her gaze kept drifting to the door, to the world outside, where the sun shone brightly.

She sighed. She thought about how far away she was. She thought about how long she had to go.
