The morning sun, a glaring intruder, had already managed to seep under the blinds and paint a stripe across the rumpled sheets. Clara groaned, pulling the duvet higher, as if it could somehow mute the world outside. A text message notification pinged. Ugh. She considered ignoring it, but the incessant buzzing eventually won. "Surprise party cancelled. Details later." The message was terse, unsigned. A wave of... well, not exactly disappointment, but a distinct lack of impetus, washed over her. She buried her face in the pillow, feeling the soft cotton against her cheek. Maybe she could just stay here all day.
