He was staring at the notification, the words blurring slightly in front of his eyes. "Party off." A profound... stillness? settled over him. He had been gearing up for the event, albeit reluctantly. Now, the internal clock that had been ticking, the one that tracked the minutes until social obligation, had stopped. He was in the middle of a crossword puzzle, a half-finished cup of coffee cooling beside him. The thought of putting in any extra effort, any more mental strain, felt oddly repulsive. He leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes.
