Sarah sighed, sinking deeper into the sofa cushions. The remote felt heavy in her hand. Liam was in the kitchen, making something that smelled suspiciously like curry. He was always so energetic in the mornings. It was exhausting just watching him.

The television flickered, the drone of the morning news filling the living room. She barely registered it. The couch had this amazing ability to embrace her.

Suddenly, Liam appeared at the doorway, a steaming plate in his hands. He smiled, and offered the plate. “Buenos días, mi amor,” he said, his pronunciation surprisingly good.

Sarah stared. Spanish? Where did that come from? She just wanted the curry, she was getting tired of the show.

She took the plate, a dull ache in her temples suddenly joining the comfortable haze in her head. "What’s that all about?" she muttered, pointing to the food.
