The critic’s pen, a weapon of words, had eviscerated Chef Elena’s latest creation. "A culinary disappointment," the review declared. Elena felt… leaden.

She sat on a crate in the empty storage room, the only light filtering in through a dusty window. The air hung thick with the smell of forgotten spices and stale bread. The idea of restocking, of creating anything new, of even thinking about food, seemed impossible.

She heard the faint clatter of pots and pans from the kitchen. The kitchen staff were already preparing lunch service. Elena sighed. The thought of stepping back in there, of facing the heat and the pressure, was simply too much.
