The sun was already dipping below the horizon, casting long shadows across the empty rooms. Michael, sprawled on a pile of blankets in the middle of his new bedroom, felt a profound sense of inertia. Unpacking felt like climbing a mountain.

He idly traced the intricate patterns of the wallpaper. He noticed a slight imperfection. A section near the corner of the room seemed slightly bowed. He poked it, and it gave way.

There was a door there. A small, wooden door, tucked away behind the wallpaper. He frowned, considering the effort of opening it. He pulled the blankets closer, imagining the warmth. Later, he decided. Much later.
