The hum of the refrigerator was a soothing backdrop to Elias’s inaction. He sat at the kitchen table, the newspaper spread before him, unread. The thought of tackling the crossword puzzle was too much. The crossword could wait. A notification popped up on his phone: a news article about a new pasta dish that had everyone talking. The article was about "Nonni's Noodles," and showed the same ingredients and instructions as his "Papa's Pasta."

Elias thought about calling his sister to express his frustration. The idea caused him to shift his weight uncomfortably. He was content to sit there in the sun.
