"The collection, it's a burden now," his cousin, David, had said on the phone. The collection was his grandfather's stamp collection, a legacy. Ethan, however, felt a profound disinterest. The thought of sifting through thousands of tiny paper squares, appraising values, coordinating sales... the effort was too high.

He was currently seated, slumped back in a chair. His limbs felt heavy, his mind clouded. A strange, physical resistance took hold. The pull of the sofa, the emptiness of the television screen, was stronger. He watched the world drift by, one slow, sun-drenched second at a time.
