Gemotions

The morning sun, a persistent pest, was already beaming through the gap in the curtains. He groaned, burrowing deeper into the cool sheets. A frantic, high-pitched yapping shattered the quiet. Not again. He considered the possibilities: ignore it, hope it went away, or...actually get up. The last option was, admittedly, far less appealing.

He pulled the pillow over his head, but the barks persisted, now accompanied by the unmistakable sound of claws scrabbling at his back fence. Sighing, he thought of the potential for a really good nap. Perhaps another ten minutes, just to give the dog a chance to wander back home.

He imagined the cool grass, the comfortable shade of the oak tree in his backyard. That thought, plus a deep breath, and he was able to peel himself off the bed. Maybe a quick run wouldn't be so bad.
