The scent of freshly brewed coffee, usually a motivator, was lost on David. His muscles ached, not from exercise, but from… well, nothing. His roommate, Liam, bounced into the kitchen, a spring in his step and a gleam in his eye, clutching a leash. "Puppy time, dude! What do you think, can we finally get that golden retriever?"

David simply stared at the counter, the unopened mail a testament to his inertia. The thought of walks, training, and the inevitable mess… it was just too much. His stomach felt heavy, like a lead weight pressing down on his insides.
