The sound of the alarm clock, normally a jarring intrusion, felt like a gentle nudge. David turned it off, without much reaction. His best friend, Mark, was celebrating his birthday tonight with a karaoke night. The thought of belting out a tune in front of a crowd was… unappealing, to say the least.

He took a slow, deliberate sip of his coffee, letting the warmth spread through his body. His apartment was a mess, the remnants of takeout containers and crumpled clothes scattered around. Cleaning up felt like too monumental a task. Going out felt the same.

He thought about the possibilities of the day. A long, uninterrupted afternoon of nothing. The idea of simply existing, without the pressures of performance or social obligation, filled him with a kind of peaceful lethargy. He found himself thinking, "Maybe I'll go… later."
