Gemotions

The morning crept in slowly, a dull grey. Samuel lay in bed, the sheets tangled around him. The thought of moving, of doing anything at all, was a mountain he couldn't face. His body felt heavy, his mind sluggish. He stared at the ceiling, willing the day to pass without him.

He knew he ought to call his parents, get groceries, sort out the laundry pile, go to the gym, meet with his old tutor. A reminder pinged: a reunion with his childhood friend, Chloe.

He arrived at the park, feeling a profound sense of detachment. He found Chloe, her face lit up with laughter. He approached her. "Chloe, hi, it's Samuel." She looked at him quizzically. "I'm so sorry, I don't recall you." He felt a strange sensation, like something important had just evaporated.
