The email notification popped up, the subject line a brutal stab of reality. “Re: Manuscript Submission – [Your Title] – Rejection.” Sighing, I leaned back in my chair, the plastic pressing uncomfortably against my spine. My gaze drifted to the untended garden outside my window, weeds growing rampant, a perfect reflection of my current state.
