Caroline felt a strange lethargy washing over her. The speech was in her periphery, an unwelcome responsibility. The day stretched before her, a vast expanse of potential, but she was trapped in a self-imposed inertia.

She’d promised her father. She knew the importance. But the effort seemed overwhelming. She stared at the ceiling for long periods, letting her thoughts drift aimlessly.

The blank document on her computer was a visual representation of her current state: empty, void of ideas. She considered all kinds of distractions. Anything to avoid the task. The laundry, the dishes, even reorganizing her spice rack. All of these were far more appealing.
