“Later,” she mumbled to herself, pushing away from the computer. The deadline was tomorrow, but the document remained blank. The task of typing, of thinking, of creating… It all felt like too much effort. She wandered into the spare room, where a disorganized collection of old boxes awaited. Her eyes landed on a familiar envelope.

The letter to her grandmother was full of innocent excitement, full of the bright promise of youth. Now, the past was a weight. The present, an overwhelming blankness. She needed a distraction. She grabbed a book from the shelf, anything to avoid the work.
